Bruno Pomi Portable Heater

Rechargeable hand warmer and mobile battery

Hand warmers are a time-honored tradition in Japan: from the onjaku warm stones wrapped in cotton used in Heian period 1,000 years ago to the shioonjaku of the Edo period (17th-19th centuries), when people would roast rice bran and salt and put them in fabric bags to keep them warm, and the haishiki kairo of the early 20th century that used hot ash, the Japanese were never short of ideas for portable heaters. The Bruno Pomi Portable Heater is the latest in this line and is, of course, a bit more high-tech than those historical predecessors!

Like most things these days, the Bruno Pomi Portable Heater charges up by USB: one charge is enough to keep it warm for up to eight hours. It has three temperature settings to choose from (low 42°C/107.6°F, medium 47°C/116.6°F, and high 52°C/125.6°F) and so you know which you have on, it also has a screen that indicates the temperature. The Pomi is also a mobile battery: when you switch to that mode, you can charge your smartphone instead of warming your hands. Available in beige and khaki, the device comes with a carrying pouch and silicone wrist strap.
