The Akari series of paper lantern lights by American-born artist Isamu Noguchi are among the icons of mid-century design. Now hhstyle is releasing a limited number of reproductions of the famous light sculptures. Like the others in the series, the Akari 1AS (first designed in 1953) features the original iron, bamboo, and handmade Japanese paper construction and a reproduction of one of Noguchi’s classic graphic designs.

The Akari lamps were created in 1950s postwar Japan when the governor of a rural state called upon the visiting Isamu, already a renowned artist and designer, to help revitalize the traditional craft of paper lantern making. This stunning replica of Isamu’s timeless design brings sophistication, history, and a little mystique into your home and is sure to be a focus of attention.
