Abumo Seiyu Sesame Oil Rayu

Chili oil for gyoza dumplings

Even if you don't know that its name, you have ever eaten gyoza dumplings in Japan, either at a ramen restaurant or Chinese food restaurant, you have seen the tiny bottle with the transparent red liquid and have probably tried it and experienced its bite (well, burn, actually), but also the way it works with soy sauce and vinegar to add flavor to the gyoza. If you did and would like to explore that combination a little more, you need to add a bottle of Abumo Seiyu Sesame Oil Rayu to your spice and condiments rack!

The product of almost four centuries of experience in making of various oils (its maker was founded in Chiba Prefecture in around 1630), the Abumo Seiyu Sesame Oil Rayu uses the Tamashime Ichiban Shibori Sesame Oil as its base but adds a whole spectrum of ingredients: chili peppers and hana sansho pepper for the burn, plus cinnamon bark, star anise, and dried citrus peel for flavor. The results are phenomenal! And since it comes in an 180 g (6.3 oz) bottle, you will have enough to try all kinds of combinations with your gyoza!
