It was 1975 when one of the leading names in the textile industry, Tatsuo Sekidome, designed a floral pattern for the rice cooker of Osaka manufacturer Tiger Corporation. The company is still very much active today, making both kitchen appliances and also some of the best vacuum flasks. The poppy-themed design proved very popular, so Tiger also put it on one of its famous flasks and in 2023, to celebrate its centennial (yes, it has been around since 1923), it has revived the design for the Tiger Thermos 100th Anniversary Retro Bento Box.
Oval-shaped like all standard Japanese bento boxes (lunchboxes), the Tiger Thermos 100th Anniversary Retro Bento Box measures 17 x 12.7 x 5.2 cm (6.7 x 5 x 2") and has a full capacity of 650 ml (22 fl oz). Like regular bento boxes, it also comes with a separator so you can use one half for your rice and the other for the okazu or side dishes of fish, meat, or vegetables. A vintage collectible and practical household item!
