Steiff Chibi Maruko-chan Doll

Anime character made by top teddy bear maker

What does Steiff, the German company that invented the teddy bear as we know it back in 1902, have to do with Japan, you might ask. And the answer is the Steiff Chibi Maruko-chan Doll, Steiff's version of one of Japan's most popular anime characters among children and adults alike: Chibi Maruko-chan (aka Little Maruko), a nine-year-old, third-grade student who has been the lead character of a manga and later anime since 1986 - and which is still going strong!

Designed with the quality that has made Steiff famous the world over, the Steiff Chibi Maruko-chan Doll shows Maruko in one of her characteristic red skirts with suspenders and, in a nod the doll's maker, holding a little teddy. Like all plush dolls by Steiff, her left ear bears the trademark button of the company, but unlike all the others, she comes with an authentic message from the late Sakura Momoko, the manga artist who originally created Chibi Maruko-chan. More than a toy, this is a collector's item that will become an heirloom for future generations!
