Kyugetsu Kimono Girl Bebichhichi

Traditional Japanese attire stuffed monkey toy

If you are just a casual fan of Monchhichi, the stuffed monkey toys that from the mid-1970s to the late 1980s were all the rage in Japan, you might not be aware that the lineup included Bebichhichi, the baby Monchhichi that raised the level of cuteness by several notches. Like all Monchhichi, Bebichhichi come in various outfits, including some traditional Japanese ones but none as beautiful as the Kyugetsu Kimono Girl Bebichhichi, co-created by one of Tokyo's oldest doll makers, Kyugetsu.

The Kyugetsu Kimono Girl Bebichhichi is dressed in a bright red kimono with a white obi sash and even a pink obijime cord to keep the obi in place. Kyugetsu specializes in dolls in kimono and their attention to detail really shows here. It measures a compact 10 x 15 x 7 cm (3.9 x 5.9 x 2.8") so you can use the doll as an ornament even if you have limited space. Yes, it's meant to be a toy but is too cute not to put on display for everyone to admire!
