According to the backstory of Castle in the Sky, one of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's first big hits from 1986, Laputa, the castle that floats in the sky thanks to the power of the giant crystal of the element Aetherium that is hidden in its depths, used to be the center of a very advanced civilization. At some point, the population declined and eventually disappeared altogether, and now only a fragment of it still exists, drifiting in the sky and hidden in a constant low-pressure system. Hidden, that is, unless you have the Castle in the Sky Light-up Diorama!
Coming from the official Studio Ghibli merchandise collection, the Castle in the Sky Light-up Diorama is a perfect 145 x 220 x 130 mm (5.7 x 8.7 x 5.1") reproduction of the iconic flying castle-planet. It is held up by clouds that seem to be floating up from the stone-like pedestal. If you power it up with three AAA batteries and turn it on, you see among the clouds the Aetherium that keeps the castle in the air, glowing with the light of magic!
