Zebrang Cast-Iron Rice Oven ZB-RO-B

Metal rice cooker

In most Japanese homes, rice is cooked using a modern rice cooker with more menus and settings than a desktop computer. And while most people agree this is a good thing because it offers versatility, there are many who argue that rice cooked the old way is more delicious. The Zebrang Cast-Iron Rice Oven ZB-RO-B was created for those people and between its classic design and the amazing flavor it draws out of the rice, it might well make you rethink the need for modern rice cookers!

The Zebrang Cast-Iron Rice Oven ZB-RO-B really goes back to basics: it's made of cast iron, just like cooking implements were up until mid-20th century, it isn't electric (it is made for gas ranges), and doesn't have any menus. You just put in the rice (up to two measures or 300 g / 10.6 oz), add the water, close the lid, and put it on the range. In 7-10 minutes, the steel whistle on top signals that boiling is done, so you turn off the heat, leave the rice to steam for about 15 minutes, and that's it! Cooking rice the traditional way needn't be different and the results are just delicious.
