Tamiya Rubber Band Powered Trike

Educational construction kit

Models aren't always about fighter planes and battleships! As Tamiya has proved time and again, they can be about science and engineering, and about teaching children (and adults!) how things work. That's the main reason that models of this type, of which the Tamiya Rubber Band Powered Trike is a great example, have fewer pieces and can be assembled without glue: they are less about achieving the perfect look but building something that works and demonstrates the principles of physics!

So yes, the Tamiya Rubber Band Powered Trike is an educational toy – but that doesn't mean it isn't fun! Using just a pair of nippers and a Philips screwdriver, you can build a two-gear running mini machine that works with the power of a regular rubber band. No batteries or other sources of power are needed: all you have to do is push the main rod and release the band, and you'll see the gears turning and transferring the power to the wheels through the see-through casing!
