Japanese bathrooms will almost always be equipped with a low chair or stool, as well as a small vessel for scooping up water. This is because the Japanese traditionally scrub and wash their bodies before plunging into the tub. However, as city apartments become more and more nondescript, so too do these bath stools get replaced by cheap plastic versions or forgotten all together.
Enter designer Noriko Hashida, who began researching 700 people's bathing habits till she had found what was needed for a twenty-first century bather. The result is this Retto High Chair Bath Stool, a contemporary answer to a classic ritual. Its wrap-around legs can hook over the side of your bath tub and the straight ergonomic lines match the design of most modern bathrooms today.
