It isn't a Japanese invention (it was invented by Thomas Edison in the late nineteenth century) but in a nation so obsessed with gadgets (and building models), it isn't surprising that you can get your hands on something like the Otona no Kagaku Edison Wax Cylinder Phonograph Kit. Created by Gakken for its Otona no Kagaku (Science for Grownups) magazine series, this is your chance to make your own functioning replica of the world's first recording device!
