Nonbei Yokocho Electric Sake Warmer

Alcoholic beverage heating appliance

Nowadays with the super-refined junmai ginjo and junmai dai-ginjo sake, most people have forgotten that there was a time, not too long ago, when they way you could tell if someone was a real sake connoisseur was that they knew that sake had to be warmed to be enjoyed. Some sake are best enjoyed atsukan (warmed), instead of reishu (chilled), and many Japanese will agree that atsukan has a more homely feel. Which you can now experience first-hand using the Nonbei Yokocho Electric Sake Warmer!

The Nonbei Yokocho Electric Sake Warmer is very simple to use: a small (approximately 125 x 125 x 140 mm/4.9 x 4.9 x 5.5") pot with a narrow opening for a tokkuri ceramic sake bottle or even a glass cup-of-sake like those you can get in convenience stores in Japan. You fill the pot with water, pick the temperature you want between 35 and 59°C (95 and 102.2°F), put your sake in it, and let the sake then heat up. This is actually how the izakaya taverns in Japan also do it, so what you are getting here is the real deal!
