There are many dreamlike scenes in Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro, the film that over 35 years after its launch, remains his most popular in Japan. But if pressed to choose the one that best captures the movie's essence, most fans would agree it's where Totoro takes his two smaller selves and Satsuki and Mei on a flight over the forest on a spinning top while holding an umbrella. Studio Ghibli apparently agrees, which is why they used a frame from it for the My Neighbor Totoro Suncatcher.
Looking like a piece of a stained glass, the 120 x 265 x 27 mm (4.7 x 10.4 x 1") My Neighbor Totoro Suncatcher is made of die-cut and beautifully colored acrylic and epoxy resin. The three Totoro and the two girls have been reproduced in great detail and they really look as if they're flying through a flurry of leaves. Especially if you hang it in front of a window with a clear view of the sky, the effect is quite magical. And since this is a suncatcher, both the figures and the multifaceted ball that hangs under it (together with two Susuwatari sprites) conjure up amazing rainbow patterns all over your room!
