You won't find the Marushin Honke Craft Soy Sauce Sampler (2 Bottles) in any supermarket in Japan. As a matter of fact, most Japanese aren't even aware soy sauces of this level actually exist! Of course, if you're just looking for something to add a little splash of saltiness and umami to your sushi, supermarket soy sauce is perfectly fine. But let's say you want to expand your culinary horizons and see what the words "craft soy sauce" actually mean, this two 200 ml (6.8 fl oz) bottle set is the key to unlocking the door to a whole new world of gastronomical wonders.
Created by Yuasa-based Marushin Honke, a soy sauce maker with a history of almost 150 years, the Marushin Honke Craft Soy Sauce Sampler combines two amazing and very different sauces: the Ki-ippon Kuromame, which is made using only Tamba black soybeans, has a deep and mellow flavor, and is ideal for sashimi, meat dishes, and tofu; and the Taru Shikomi, which, being aged in traditional casks, has a rich aroma and a fresher flavor, and will complement any fish dish, from raw to simmered to broiled.
