Kyugetsu New Year Decoration Mini Kadomatsu Pair Set

Traditional Japanese Oshogatsu ornament

Christmas, as an imported holiday, carries with it all the Western symbols (Christmas tree, Santa Claus, etc.) but from December 26, all that goes away and the Japanese bring out their traditional ornaments to celebrate what is their really big holiday, New Year's Day and the two days following. And while there are many, none is more popular than the kadomatsu, a combination of pine and bamboo that comes in several combinations. The Kyugetsu New Year Decorations Mini Kadomatsu Pair Set is probably the most common and therefore the most characteristic.

Created from high-quality rayon crepe by one of Tokyo's oldest decoration and doll makers, Kyugetsu, who has been in the Yanagibashi neighborhood since the early 19th century, the Kyugetsu New Year Decorations Mini Kadomatsu Pair Set comprises two pieces, each featuring three bamboo stalks cut diagonally with pine needles and plum blossoms. The plum blossoms make the set even more auspicious, since this combination called shochikubai (literally "pine, bamboo, plum") is considered a symbol of prosperity and good fortune!
