The first thing that makes the Horikoshi Shogi Set special is that it is made in Tendo, a city in Yamagata Prefecture known as Japan's center for producing shogi pieces. You get 41 pieces (shogi is played with 20 pieces on each side, but you also get a spare pawn) perfectly designed and shaped and with the characters for each type stamped in black and red (for when they get promoted). The set also contains a folding board so you can start playing as soon as you take everything out of the box!
