Gakken Analog Synthesizer SX-150

In the spirit of the MOOG and other early synthesizers, the Gakken SX-150 Analog Synthesizer produces great, original sound for a low, low cost because you have to (get to?) put it together! Along with the latest Gakken magazine focusing on synthesizers, the SX-150 is a DIY project for adults who like to make actual fun things.

The magazine also includes many interviews and photos with famous musicians and innovators. For a taste, watch the video below to see legendary Shibuya-kei artist Cornelius testing out the SX-150.

After putting it together, use the piece however you please: On its own, connected to a source such as a theremin (pictured), or played along with other instruments in a bad or mix. Not only does it create a great nostalgic sound, but it’s as simple as can be, and uses AA batteries so you don’t need a power adapter.
