Warosoku Flower Candles (Set of 5)

Traditional Japanese candles

A candle is a candle, right? Sure, they come in all kinds of shapes and colors but in the end, it's just paraffin and a wick, isn't it? Not in the case of warosoku (Japanese candles), especially their Kyoto variety, kyorosoku: from their shape, which resembles an inverted cone, starting wide at the top and narrowing at the base, to their material (fruits of the haze or wax tree, or rice bran) and the craftsmanship that goes into their making, these candles are decidedly different. Just take a look at the Warosoku Flower Candles (Set of 5) and you will immediately see what we mean.

Created by Nakamura Rosoku, a Kyoto candle-maker that has been in business since 1887, the Warosoku Flower Candles (Set of 5) come in a choice of two sets (Seasons of Kyoto and Colors of Kyoto,) with each having five candles that are illustrated with Kyoto's most characteristic plants and flowers, including morning glories, blueberries, plum, and peach blossoms. With a burn time of about 50 minutes and with minimum smoke, these handmade beauties add a touch of classic Japanese elegance to any space.
