The woodturning work done on its body in the technique that Yamagata Prefecture has been proud of for ages is reason enough to get the Usubiki Kinoko Mushroom Light. And with three different models (Bell, Dress and Tower) in ascending sizes, you can transform home or office spaces. But what's unique about this lamp is not just the mushroom shape or cherry birch materials. It's the shade.
The expert woodworkers who created the Usubiki Kinoko Mushroom Light have done an extremely fine job shaving the shade: at some spots it has been thinned down to 1mm (that's 0.03 of an inch!). This means the wood becomes transparent and when combined with the LED bulb it truly lives up to its name: "usubi" (soft light) coming from "ki" (wood). Natural materials and crafted with traditional techniques into a natural shape that forms a harmony of aesthetic and function: in other words, essentially Japanese!
