Upcycle Meri 03 Indoor Flip-Flops
Modern version of traditional Japanese zori sandals made of recycled fabric
Everyone these days is trying to do something for the environment, and Merikoti, a Tokyo-based workshop specializing in comfortable home footwear, found a way that is perfectly suitable for its business model: recycling yarn that the knitting industry just throws away because of misplaced orders or wrong shipments. Using this material, Merikoti created a special version of its trademark indoor flip-flops, naming them, very appropriately, the Upcycle Meri 03 Indoor Flip-Flops. And the best part is that in terms of look and feel, they are just like their regular zori slippers!
Merikoti takes the recycled yarn and makes its own 50% cotton and 50% polyester. This guarantees that the Upcycle Meri 03 Indoor Flip-Flops will be sturdy but, at the same time, soft and comfortable. The technique used involves braiding the yarn tightly so the end result becomes solid, as if made of leather (like regular zori, the split-toe sandals that are the inspiration behind these flip-flops). They are available in three sizes (M, L, and LL) and to make the fit more precise, they come with an adjustable strap!
