While the rest of the world's definition of high-tech has a lifespan of about five years, Japan takes a different approach: if a technology was considered good at a time, the Japanese will stick to it, evolve it, and try to keep it as relevant as possible, no matter how many years have passed since it was first invented. This is what Bandai has been doing with its Tamagotchi digital pets ever since their launch in 1996, and the 2004 Keitai Kaitsuu Tamagotchi Plus was one of the first major evolutions in the series. Which, in a very meta way, is now being celebrated 20 years later with yet another evolution in the form of the Tamagotchi K-Tama Timer!
The only thing that makes the Tamagotchi K-Tama Timer different visually from the original Keitai Kaitsuu Tamagotchi Plus or K-Tama is its size: the K-Tama was just 5 cm (2") big, whereas this new timer is 8 cm (1.3"). But other than that, every little detail has been duplicated, from the shape to the colors, the sounds, and even the small strap to hang it on your bag. You can set the timer up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds. It has three buttons (minutes, seconds, and start/stop) for easy operation and it comes with a magnet and a stand so you can always have it around for whenever you need a timer!
