Katsushika Hokusai Magnet Set

Master Japanese painter theme decorative magnets

The woodblock prints of Katsushika Hokusai made late-19th-century Europe realize the magnificence of Japan's traditional arts. His series of views of Mount Fuji, most of all The Great Wave off Kanagawa, have become as iconic and popular as the works of Renoir or Van Gogh. Hokusai spent most of his almost 90 years in Tokyo's Sumida ward. A local workshop specializing in metalwork decided to honor him with the Katsushika Hokusai Magnet Set, a special collection of coin-like magnets featuring some of the master's best art!

Inside a tasteful wooden box and against a white background, the eight 30 x 30 x 7 mm (1.2 x 1.2 x 0.3") buttons are made of tin with a magnet back and finished in a way that makes them look like antique silver coins. Each has its own theme, all from famous Hokusai works including of course The Great Wave off Kanagawa but also some of the animals from his numerous sketchbooks. If you're looking for something Hokusai-related that goes beyond yet another reproduction of that famous wave, the Katsushika Hokusai Magnet Set is for you!
