Stained glass is one of the few aspects of Western culture that haven't really caught on in Japan: local craftspeople can do amazing things with glass but this isn't one of them. So seeing two very recognizable characters, the wizard Howl and the milliner Sophie, from the 2004 film of Hayao Miyazaki anime in the Howl's Moving Castle Suncatcher as if preserved in stained glass may at first seems a little strange. But if you're familiar with the film, you'll know it's set in a world based on 19th-century Europe, making this style very appropriate.
The Howl's Moving Castle Suncatcher is actually made mainly of epoxy resin and acrylic, but the results are just as stunning as stained glass. When you hang it in front of a window, it's as if Howl and Sophie are flying in the air – like in the movie! It measures 125 x 280 x 27 mm (4.9 x 11 x 1"), comes with a chain for hanging, and underneath the two protagonists is a charm with the fire demon Calcifer and a ball that also charmingly catches the sunlight.
