You wouldn't believe it if you visit downtown Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, but the Japanese love the simple, understated, and quiet when it comes to their traditional styles. The word for this quality and the beauty expressed in it is shibui. Kimono and accessories in these more muted and restrained colors are considered very stylish, and one such accessory is the Traditional Japanese Uchiwa Fan Flower Nest!
On a dark orange background, the designer of the Traditional Japanese Uchiwa Fan Flower Nest has painted a flower and leaf in black. By itself, the motif is very beautiful but there's more: if you look closer, you'll notice that between the flower petals is a small bird nesting, another classic element of the shibui aesthetic. The fan is handmade using bamboo and washi paper, and dyed with persimmon juice. Since it serves as much as an ornament as a fan, there are also two optional stands (vertical or horizontal).
