Tokugawa Art Museum Silver Armor Pouch

Samurai museum shop travel accessory

The Tokugawa, the clan of the shogun who ruled Japan from the beginning of the 17th century to the middle of the 19th, had several branches around the country and the one in Owari, present-day Nagoya, was one of the biggest. The Tokugawa Art Museum Silver Armor Pouch comes from the eponymous shop in Nagoya and is an original, chic way to pay tribute to the family that defined Japan as we know it today!

The design on the Tokugawa Art Museum Silver Armor Pouch is a reproduction in silk of the pattern found on the cuirass (chest protector) of one of the suits of armor in the museum collection. If you look closely, you will see that there is some amazing weave work on the outside and this is because it has been done by the textile artisans of Kyoto's Nishijin district. The pouch's dimensions are approximately 11 x 17 x 6 cm (4.3 x 6.7 x 2.4"), making it a great choice as an accessory paired with even a small bag. The tab features the Tokugawa crest, the most famous samurai crest in Japan!
