Tokicocochi Egg Beater

Specialized kitchen tool

It is one of the lesser-known Japanese breakfast dishes outside Japan, perhaps because most Westerners don't find the idea of eating raw eggs in the morning very appetizing. For the Japanese, though, tamago-kake-gohan (cooked rice topped or mixed with a raw egg) is one of the most common breakfast choices for children and adults alike. And to make sure that the egg has been beaten perfectly, an artisan from Arakawa ward in northeast Tokyo came up with the right tool: the Tokicocochi Egg Beater!

The Japanese beat eggs (for tamago-kake-gohan, omelets, etc.) using special long chopsticks called saibashi that are their main cooking tools. But with saibashi, you can't achieve the smooth, creamy mix of white and yolk that makes the egg easier to eat. With its two loops, the Tokicocochi Egg Beater achieves that, allowing you to enjoy your eggs more, raw or cooked. It's made of stainless steel, measures 146 x 27 x 0.7 mm (5.7 x 1 x 0.03"), and is dishwasher-friendly, so doesn't need any special maintenance either!
