Even if you are not a huge fan of Studio Ghibli and the anime of Hayao Miyazaki, there's a very good chance you know at least Totoro, the big forest spirit from the 1988 film My Neighbor Totoro. What you probably don't know, though, is that there's very strong evidence to suggest that Totoro started life many centuries ago during the time in which another Miyazaki film, Princess Mononoke, takes place and as a small human-shaped creature called Kodama.
