Mickey Mouse Kissaten Teapot

Disney character theme vintage coffee shop porcelain kettle

The word "kissaten" (or simply "kissa") means more than coffee house in Japanese: these shops are a cultural phenomenon starting in the early 20th century, when coffee was introduced to Japan, and are still around today after a second peak in the 1960s and 1970s. The Mickey Mouse Kissaten Teapot is a throwback to those retro times, when Japan was emerging after the war as a superpower, and its people would enjoy a cup of coffee or black tea and a bite in one of Tokyo's countless kissaten!

Why a Mickey Mouse Kissaten Teapot? The answer is that Disney also became big in Japan during the same period! The pot comes with a tea strainer but of course you can use it for coffee or any other hot beverage as well. It's made of white porcelain and on the left side features a portrait of Mickey Mouse, his name written in vintage Japanese lettering and the word "kissa" i(coffee house) also in Japanese!
