Meteor Kendama

Modern take on traditional Japanese toy

Although there's a good chance that the kendama "sword and ball" juggling toy was invented in Europe and was imported to Japan during the Edo period (1600-1868), it was through Japan that it conquered the world and became an international celebrity, even appearing in the closing ceremony of the Tokyo's Olympic Games in 2021. The Meteor Kendama is a very contemporary take on the classic toy, proving that even a staple like the kendama can become more beautiful – and more challenging! – with some savvy design twists.

The Meteor Kendama leaves the classic T shape behind for a more angular form, so when you are not practicing your kendama moves, you can leave it standing or lying down with the ball resting on either the peg on the top or on the side. Available in two color schemes, one with a natural color handle and an orange ball, and another all in black, this easily passes as an abstract decorative sculpture. But there are changes in the gameplay too: unlike the classic kendama's four points of rest, this one has six for a total of seven ways to steady the ball. And yes, it's as challenging as it sounds!
