Back before computer graphics ruled the world, illusionists and magicians used to say they did all their tricks with smoke and mirrors. Apparently there's still much that can be done with mirrors and the Magical Illustrator proves it. Using a very simple optical trick, this clever toy from Bandai, one of Japan's toy makers, reflects everything in front on the paper you lay out on its main area. From there you only have to trace the lines and you have your picture!
The Magical Illustrator is pretty easy to set up: you just arrange the arm supporting the special mirror and the glasses through which you'll be seeing your subject. If you want to copy a picture, there is a stand where you can clip the picture on to, but if you want to draw something from scratch, just look through the glasses at it. After that, you only need to lay a sheet of paper on the Illustrator's drawing board, look through the glasses, grab a pencil and off you go. Bandai's Magical Illustrator is the perfect way to uncover your (or your child's) hidden painting talents!
