Ghibli Museum Crest Metal Embroidered Brooch

Anime museum fashion accessory

Given the immense popularity of the anime studio's films, it isn't strange that the Ghibli Museum has become one of Tokyo's must-visit destinations. Or that the museum crest has become a cultural icon itself, so much so that there are people who love to have it pinned on their clothes or their bags in the form of the 6.5 x 7.7 cm (2.6 x 3") Ghibli Museum Crest Metal Embroidered Brooch!

Even if you don't speak Japanese, you will instantly recognize Totoro (Hayao Miyazaki's most beloved character) sitting under a tree. For the other two parts of this beautifully crafted crest, though, you may need some Japanese to fully appreciate: the three falcons on the left side are read "mitaka" in Japanese, the same as the area of Tokyo where the museum is. As for the right side, it has the character for "i," which also means wild boar, next to the head of an actual boar. One word for "head" in Japanese is kashira, so the whole thing reads "i no kashira," the name of the park in Mitaka where the museum is located!
