Going for perfection means going beyond the standards and looking very carefully at the details. This is as true for making coffee as it is for anything and the Japanese are particularly good at doing exactly that: analyzing every procedure, right down to the tiniest details, and trying to improve on each of them separately. Brewed coffee, Japan's oldest method of coffee-making, is a great example because Japanese baristas try all the methods their colleagues overseas use and then take them one step further. Case in point, the Espresso Tokyo MagMa Dripper!
The 12.5 x 6 cm (4.9 x 2.4") Espresso Tokyo MagMa Dripper has been created for hand-drip (pour-over) brewed coffee. In an effort to minimize the effect paper has and maximize the effect water has when the coffee is being brewed, the designers behind this groundbreaking filter discarded paper completely and substituted it with a fine, stainless steel filter featuring a double-mesh structure and W shape. This way, more of the ground coffee comes into contact with the water and more flavor is extracted, especially the beans' oils, which paper filters hold back. Try it and you'll know your quest for the perfect cup is over!
