PlusMinusZero Hakuichi Gold Leaf Clock

Traditional Ishikawa Prefecture gold foil craft timepiece

Ten centuries. A thousand years. This is how long metal foil, and particularly gold foil, craft in Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture has been around! From ornaments for samurai armor to serveware for the Imperial Court, there is nothing the smiths of Ishikawa cannot make, and they even manage to make their creations not look gaudy, despite the showy material. Believe it or not, you end up admiring more the skill that has gone into the items and less the fact that the material is gold or silver. Or, as in the case of the PlusMinusZero Hakuichi Gold Leaf Clock, even copper!

The PlusMinusZero Hakuichi Gold Leaf Clock is a minimal wall clock (or table clock: it comes with both a wood screw and a stand so you can either hang it or just place it on a flat surface) with two hands and twelve graduations. Even if its ABS resin material was not covered in the gold, silver, or copper foil, it would still be a great designer timepiece to have in your home or space. But covered as it is with these less-than-paper-thin leaves of metal, it transforms into a 250 x 33.4 mm (9.8 x 1.3") work of art!
