Meri Tove T109 Indoor Flip-Flops

Modern version of traditional Japanese zori sandals

You don't need to be wearing a kimono (or a wetsuit) to appreciate zori, the Japanese split-toe sandals, or their Western equivalent, the flip-flops. This decidedly easy-to-slip-on (and take off) footwear has managed to cross cultures and become part of the wardrobe of millions with no interest in traditional Japanese clothing – or surfing. The Meri Tove T109 Indoor Flip-Flops have been created with these people in mind, giving them something that is comfortable, relaxing, and stylishly modern, all while paying homage to the past.

The Meri Tove T109 Indoor Flip-Flops are being handmade by a workshop in Tokyo's Sumida ward, using techniques like those used in making the waraji straw sandals of the samurai. Because this is the 21st century, though, instead of straw, these flip-flops are made with a 50% cotton, 50% polyester knitting yarn. The resulting footwear is very comfortable and perfect for resting your feet after a hard day's work. You can get them in three sizes and with an easy to untie and retie strap to make them as snug or loose as you like!
