Kyugetsu New Year Decorations Kaidan Set

Originally a Chinese concept, the chest of drawers shaped as a staircase called kaidan-dansu in Japanese was quickly adopted in Japan because it can be used even in small spaces. The Kyugetsu New Year Decorations Kaidan Set takes this concept in a somewhat unusual direction, as an arrangement of New Year lucky charms. Like the original chest of drawers, though, it can be easily adjusted to fit your needs, either in terms of space or in terms of aesthetics and style!

The Kyugetsu New Year Decorations Kaidan Set is made of six boxes, each 9.3 x 6.4 x 9.3 cm (3.7 x 2.5 x 3.7") big. Every box contains a different engimono (talisman) related to New Year celebrations: there are two Chinese lions (shishi), a pair of kadomatsu diagonally cut bamboo stalks, a sea bream (which is called tai in Japan and rhymes with "medetai," meaning "auspicious" or "happy"), a kagami mochi (two mochi rice cakes and a daidai, citrus fruit on a pedestal called a sanpo), and a hane (shuttlecock) from the traditional badminton-style game hanetsuki. Arrange them as a staircase, in pairs, or any other way you like and greet the New Year in true Japanese fashion!
