Kyugetsu Inuhariko Dog Plush Toy

Cuddly version of traditional folk toy

Despite the progress of modern science, people are still nervous when they are having a baby and for (at least) the first year of its life. The same is true in Japan as well and this is why expecting couples visit specific shrines that are said to help an easy delivery or take their newborn to shrines to receive a blessing. They also buy and carry talismans that are meant to protect their babies from sickness, like the inuhariko doll, the folk toy and amulet that has inspired the Kyugetsu Inuhariko Dog Plush Toy!

Unlike the standard inuhariko dolls that are sold all over Japan, the Kyugetsu Inuhariko Dog Plush Toy isn't made of papier-mâché but of high-quality fabric. It measures 17 x 10 x 14 cm (6.7 x 3.9 x 5.5") and the craftsmanship is amazing, which is hardly surprising considering it was made by Kyugetsu, a doll workshop in Tokyo's Asakusabashi area that has been in business since 1836. More than just a children's toy, this is an amazing reinterpretation of a folk art collectible even if you don't believe in good luck charms!
