Kameyama Tokugawa Ieyasu Incense

NHK period TV drama fragrance

Every year since 1963, Japan's public broadcaster NHK produces and shows a historical drama series on Sunday evenings for a whole year. These series, called taiga drama ("large river drama"), have become a signature of NHK and known for keeping the Japanese interest in their history alive. The 2023 taiga drama was What Will You Do, Ieyasu? and the Kameyama Tokugawa Ieyasu Incense is a special fragrance blend celebrating the series and its protagonist, arguably the most important figure in Japanese history (and also the inspiration behind the FX series Shogun!).

Tokugawa Ieyasu was a samurai general who put an end to the 16th-century civil wars and became the first of a dynasty of shoguns (military leaders) that would rule Japan until 1868. Even without the NHK drama, an incense dedicated to him would be appropriate. The Kameyama Tokugawa Ieyasu Incense is that incense, featuring a blend that includes sandalwood, agarwood, patchouli, and vetiver. The reason the particular blend was chosen was that it is apparently close to the type that the real Ieyasu enjoyed. So get your pack, light one, and have your space smell like the chambers of the shogun for the next 30 minutes.
