Garden Koinobori Carp Streamers

Traditional Children's Day decoration

If you have been in Japan in early May, you have certainly seen them in gardens and yards and sometimes even over rivers or parts: big black, red, and blue fish-shaped streamers flapping in the wind as if they are swimming. And if you have asked around, you know they are called koinobori, literally carp streamers, and they are there to celebrate Children's Day on May 5. The truth is that for most Japanese, living in cities, flying a real set of koinobori is rather hard (lack of space and all), but if you do have the space you can now celebrate Children's Day for your sons (the holiday is for boys; girls have their own day, on March 3) with the Garden Koinobori Carp Streamers!

The Garden Koinobori Carp Streamers are a full set of three carp-shaped streamers (black, red, and blue), the long, stripped streamer that goes over them and is called a fukinagashi, and a yaguruma, the arrow wheel that goes on the top of the pole you use to hang the koinobori from (the pole itself isn't included in the set but the rope to mount them is). Create an amazing Children's Day spectacle in your garden with these streamers that range from 1.5 m (4.9 ft) to 3 m (9.8 ft)!
