Fujin Raijin Nishijin-ori Cushions

Traditional weave and design inspired by famous painting

Among the myriad gods of Shinto and Buddhism that make up Japan's spiritual landscape, few are more impressive than Fujin and Raijin, the god of the winds and the god of thunder and lightning, respectively, that are usually presented together. The pair can be seen in some of Japan's most iconic images like the Kaminarimon Gate of Sensoji Temple in Tokyo's Asakusa. Or in the classic 17th-century painting by Tawaraya Sotatsu that has been designated an Important Cultural Property and is now embroidered on the Fujin Raijin Nishijin-ori Cushions!

Made using the Nishijin-ori weaving technique that has produced some of Kyoto's most incredible textiles, the Fujin Raijin Nishijin-ori Cushions are a spectacular reproduction of Tawaraya Sotatsu's artwork with the two demon-like deities. Each of the two cushions is 34 x 34 x 4 cm (13.4 x 13.4 x 1.6") and their brocade is 100% polyester, so are suitable for everyday use.
