8[eit] Double Blade Pencil Sharpener

Designer office equipment

With our smartphones having dominated our everyday life, fewer and fewer among us are using even ballpoint pens and mechanical pencils, let alone regular pencils that need to be sharpened. There is, though, a particular feeling you get when you use a sharpener to make a pencil as pointy as possible: the combination of the sound of the blade on the pencil's wooden body, the smell of the graphite at its core, the resistance to your hand, and the sight of the shavings coming out as a continuous ribbon. And the 8[eit] Double Blade Pencil Sharpener is here to bring this feeling back for you!

Created by designer Michio Akita (of Sony fame) in collaboration with Nakajima Shigekudo, a company specializing in pencil sharpeners since 1933, the 45 x 73 mm (1.8 x 2.9") aluminum and acrylic resin 8[eit] Double Blade Pencil Sharpener combines superb functionality with exquisite appearance. Even when you're not using it, the sharpener makes your desk look better just by being there. But of course, it is at its best when sharpening your pencils, the two blades creating beautiful designs with the shavings as they make the graphite core as thin as a needle!
