"Always ready to die for a worthy cause" was the motto of the Sanada clan, a samurai family active in the Matsushiro area (present-day Nagano Prefecture in the center of Honshu). And to prove it, their kamon (crest) was the rokumonsen: six coins that the brave samurai would pay to cross the river of the afterlife. And if that wasn't cinematic enough, add in Sanada Nobushige, a famous member of the clan with red armor, a helmet bearing deer antlers and a reputation for being the best warrior in Japan, and who has his own TV series. To celebrate the drama series, Sanada Maru as well as Nobushige and his legacy, several master craftsmen came together to create a unique handmade item: the Sanada Clan Samurai Cellphone Pouch
The set features a pure Japanese emphasis to detail, from the red suede of the pouch itself to its paulownia box with a real mini tatami mat, the cardboard packaging, the calligraphy with the Sanada motto and the wooden plate commemorating the end of the series. The pouch is an exquisite sample of craftsmanship, and not just any craftsmanship: all the people who have worked to make this extraordinary item come from the Wakayama-Kishu region, an area related to the samurai with the red armor. According to their project leader, smartphones are for us today what the swords were for the samurai so they deserve a superb "saya" (scabbard). And nothing less than superb can describe the Sanada Clan Samurai Cellphone Pouch.
