Teori from Okayama Prefecture, makers of fine bamboo creations, is no stranger to Japan Trend Shop. Taking an idea born in the mind of 36-year-old Yosuke Shimizu from Osaka, the craftsmen of Teori have expertly laminated strips of bamboo to produce a block split in two from which a single flower emerges, as if escaping from the block's innards. The surface and texture (complimented with the natural oil finish) of the bamboo not only does not upstage even the most common flower but rather showcases it in a subtle yet poignant way. This is a contemporary take on the aesthetic ideals of ikebana (classic flower arranging), applied to vases that will look at home in any modern house.
