Kamidana Shiro

Apple iPhone-inspired designer Shinto altar

The kamidana is a type of miniature Japanese household altar to pay your respects to the gods. Now Moconoco has come along and made a very modern version of this traditional object, taking inspiration from a very unlikely source. It's Apple meets Shinto with the Kamidana Shiro, an altar for contemporary folk with one eye on nice design and another on spirituality. The partnership works brilliantly, since both Apple and Shinto revere minimalism, and white is a sacred color in Shinto.

Kamidana Shiro

Handmade from Japanese cedar, the front motif is an image of Ise Shrine made by laser cutting. This is craftsmanship that reflects a very Japanese sensibility: fusing old and new and a range of domestic and international influences.
